The Martyrs of Khartoum

Film synopsis

The Martyrs of Khartoum is the story of three doctors, Sara Ali, Sarah Khalifa and Rania Ahmed, and the roles they played during the Khartoum Massacre in Sudan on 3rd June, 2019. All three doctors risked their own lives by responding to the young protesters who were attacked by security forces in Khartoum, Sudan’s capital, that day. These security forces included the notorious Janjaweed militia, infamous for their killings in Darfur, western Sudan. The young people who were killed in Khartoum on 3rd June were referred to as “martyrs” by their fellow protesters. In this short film, Sara, Sarah and Rania describe the dramatic events of that day, the unbreakable spirit of the young protesters and their hopes for the future of Sudan.
